Senior Director of Clinical Operations Rady Children’s Institute for Genomic Medicine San Diego, California, United States
Session Description: Molecular diagnostics are increasingly used to guide patient management, with pivotal roles in diagnosis, selection of treatment and monitoring, across various phases of disease. Yet, the cost, complexity of implementation and time for results may become a limiting factor, causing delays and provision of inadequate treatments to those without access to results in a clinically actionable time. In this session, we will explore the roles for rapid testing methods which may be implemented to bridge the needs of clinical laboratories, the challenges and benefits of various technologies and potential opportunities for future development. The session will provide an overview of current state of rapid diagnostics across solid tumors, hematological malignancies and rapid genetic testing in intensive care units.
Learning Objectives:
Audience will understand the differences in genomic analysis workflows between rapid genetic testing and standard genetic testing
Understand the workflow strategies in implementing rapid diagnostic tests
Describe the clinical impact an early genetic diagnosis makes in the intensive care unit
