Medical Director of Molecular Diagnostics
MPLN/Geneuity
Robert McCall, MD, MSCR is a staff pathologist and Medical Director of Molecular Diagnostics at Molecular Pathology Laboratory Network (MPLN) with board certifications in anatomic/clinical pathology, hematopathology, and molecular genetic pathology. Dr. McCall has a background in clinical research that includes study design and the development of strategies for the organization of clinical trials.
Dr. McCall was born in Anderson, South Carolina and grew up in Oconee County, surrounded by Lake Hartwell. He received his bachelor’s degree in microbiology from Clemson University, graduating cum laude with both general and departmental honors. Following graduation, he continued to work and study in the areas of microbiology and bioengineering. His academic pursuits lead him to Charleston to complete a combined Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Science in Clinical Research (MSCR) degree program at the Medical University of South Carolina. His graduate school thesis involved the assessment of pulmonary arterial dimensions by computed tomography and the determination of their utility in predicting pulmonary arterial pressures in scleroderma patients.
Dr. McCall completed anatomic pathology/clinical pathology (AP/CP) residency and hematopathology fellowship training at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (WFBMC). While at WFBMC, Dr. McCall’s individual efforts and collaborations led to several case report publications. Following hematopathology training, he proceeded to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for fellowship training in molecular genetic pathology.
