Sara Cook, MD, PhD, is a Molecular Genetic Pathology Fellow in the Physician-Scientist training program at Mayo Clinic Rochester. Dr. Cook is interested in Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). Dr. Cook’s work focuses on SMA molecular testing and the implications of copy number variations, structural variations, and novel variants in the SMN1 and SMN2 genes. Dr. Cook is interested in genetic modifiers of SMA disease severity and has developed a disease model using patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cell-derived motor neurons to investigate potential modifiers. Dr. Cook is also interested in solid tumor genetics and tumor heterogeneity.
