Barbara Anderson, PhD, MB(ASCP) is the Analytical Specialist at Duke University Health System in the Division of Molecular Pathology, Genetics and Genomics. She is responsible for test development and validation in the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory. Her responsibilities also include developing, organizing, and implementing curriculum for rotating residents, fellows, and interns in the laboratory. She is an adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in the Masters of Clinical Laboratory Science in Molecular Diagnostics program, where she received her own Master's degree. In addition, she is on the ASCP Molecular Board of Certification Committee and is an active CAP inspector. Over the past decade, she has developed, validated, and implemented dozens of assays including multiple NGS platforms and internal pipelines, NIPTS pilot study assays, novel long-range PCR, as well as many basic molecular assays for testing in oncology, NIPTS/newborn screening, germline testing and identity testing. She was integral in implementing and coordinating the high-volume COVID-19 testing in the Duke Health system, receiving awards from Duke’s leadership for her efforts. She was the recipient of the AMP Technologist Poster Award and has presented in several AMP workshops including the Molecular Pathology Outreach Course (now "Get AMPed!"), the Science Educator's Workshop, and corporate workshops. Barbara served two terms on AMP's Teaching & Education Committee prior to being elected as the Technical Topics representative for the Program Committee and is also a member of the Membership Affairs Committee.
