Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, United States
I am a Research Director at the Newborn Screening & Genetics Laboratory at RTI International. I received a BS in Chemistry from the University of North Florida, a PhD in Genetics & Genomics from Duke University, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Language & Genetics at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in the Netherlands. My work focusses on translational research in human genetics, genomics, and epigenetics and on implementation of new technologies for genetic testing. Examples of my work in industry and academia include implementation and commercialization of a patient specific organoid technology for precision drug development and precision treatment, identification of genetic and epigenetic features related to human rare and complex diseases, and whole genome genotyping and sequencing to identify genes underlying disease and non-diseases traits. I work with a variety of public and private partners to evaluate the performance and feasibility of novel methodologies for newborn screening and collaborate with other RTI experts to implement newborn screening pilot studies to inform public health policy and accelerate the expansion of newborn screening worldwide.
