Ashley Degner, M.S., HTL(ASCP) is a Histotechnologist with Inova Health System specializing in molecular and Immunohistochemistry testing. After earning her B.S. in Preprofessional Health, she chose to pursue a Masters in Individualized Genomics and Health at Johns Hopkins University alongside her HTL certification at the Inova HT school followed by ASCP BOC certification. At the 2022 convention for the National Society for Histotechnology, she was awarded the Student Leadership Scholarship and Student Scholarship for her work within Inova's Histology Program to promote the success of others. Since then she has continued working with the Inova Histology program as a Teaching Assistant to help students navigate the array of subjects pertinent to success in histology, from microtomy to specialized differential staining techniques. Due to her interest in the integration of histology and genomics, Ashley joined Inova Health System in piloting the validation and integration of molecular testing within the clinical laboratory setting.
Previously, she presented a poster at the 2022 American Society for Clinical Pathology convention on endometrial cancer and molecular methods. This year, she has focused on developing the SOP for in-house LDT for rapid EGFR, BRAF, and KRAS mutation testing alongside a melanin bleaching procedure, which will be presented as a poster abstract at AMP's 2023 convention.
