Ramanath Majumdar, PhD, Assistant Professor, currently a member of Advanced Diagnostics Laboratory of Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Mayo Clinic. Dr. Majumdar is involved in research and clinical test development in Molecular Genetics, Genomics and Biochemical Genetics. He is currently involved in the following projects: 1) Application of 3rd generation long-read sequencing (Oxford Nanopore Technology- PromethION and GridION), A) Ultra-Long-Read Technology to resolve “Dark” Genomic Sequences in Clinically Relevant Genes, such as SMN1 & SMN2; B) Rapid Nanopore Genotyping for Bacterial Antimicrobial Susceptibility Prediction. 2. Completed test development using SARS-Cov-2 (COVID-19) related molecular platforms. 3. Next Generation Sequencing (short read) for new born screening (NBS), metabolic disorders, and rare hereditary diseases. Usase of other technologis such as droplet digital PCR (ddPCR), Sanger sequencing, fragment analysis for triple repeats expansions, and various PCR related technologies to develop and implement clinical tests for patient care.
