Associate Professor of Pathology
Cleveland Clinic
Dr. Yu-Wei Cheng is the medical director of molecular genetics at the Cleveland Clinic and the co-director of Integrated Genomics Shared Resource at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is academically ranked as an Associate Professor of Pathology and is also ABMGG board-certified in Clinical Molecular Genetics and in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics. He has a long history in developing and comparing real-time PCR, microarray, and next-generation sequencing (NGS) methods and applying them to clinical molecular genetics and oncology testing. Dr. Cheng is highly interested in integrating the DNA methylation, gene expression, and copy number profiling data to sub-classify colorectal cancer and identify novel methylation markers for potential early diagnosis. Most recently, he has been focused on implementing NGS and digital PCR tests for clinical diagnosis of somatic and germline variants in cancer and genetic disorders. He is the co-inventor in numerous US patents, the Principal Investigator of several research grants, and an active participant in laboratory inspections for the College of American Pathologists.
