Physician Scientist Pathology Resident

Mariam (Mera) was born and raised in Egypt, where she earned her Medical Degree, and completed Masters of Microbiology and Immunology. She then joined the Department of Immunology at Columbia University in 2018 as a research associate where her work focused on unraveling the complexity of immune dysregulation disorders, mechanisms of autoimmunity, and immune response to viral infections. In 2022, Mera started a Physician-Scientist Pathology Residency at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Mera has received the 2023 American Society of Hematology HONORS Award to study the differentiation of plasmacytoid dendritic cells in the context of acute myeloid leukemia. In addition, Mera is passionate about molecular pathology and has been working with Dr. George Jour on gene fusion studies among other molecular projects.
