Dr. Talaat is an Associate Professor in the Department of International Health, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Infectious Diseases, she has served as the Principal Investigator for Phase 1 or 2 trials for numerous vaccines, including influenza (pandemic and seasonal), malaria, Ebola, bacteria that cause diarrhea including Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) and Shigella, and most recently, as the Principal Investigator for Phase 1-3 trials of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in children and adults. In addition to her experience in the design and conduct of Phase 1 and 2 clinical vaccine trials, Dr. Talaat also conducts human challenge studies to look at the efficacy of novel therapies and vaccines for ETEC and Shigella, and she participated in the consensus guidelines for Shigella CHIM studies. She also is the Johns Hopkins PI for the CDC Clinical Immunization Safety Assessment project and has worked extensively on topics of vaccine safety.
